## Prerequisites

Make sure your Stardew Valley game is updated to the latest version. For legacy version 1.5.6, visit the [SVVE Legacy branch](https://next.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/collections/9sf9yn).

1. **Install Stardew Valley** (available on Steam, GOG, and Game Pass).
2. **Update your game** to the [latest version](https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Version_History).

## Setup Vortex for PC Users

Vortex is highly recommended for a smooth modding experience.

**Important:** Enable Symbolic Links in Vortex settings if Stardew Valley is not installed on drive C:.

1. **Download and install Vortex Mod Manager** from [Nexus Mods](https://www.nexusmods.com/about/vortex/).
2. **Manage Stardew Valley** on the Vortex "Games" tab.

## Game Installation Instructions for PC via Vortex

### Clear Existing Mods

1. **Purge Mods**:- Go to the Mods tab in Vortex.- Click "Purge Mods" on the top bar to temporarily clear existing mods.
2. **Remove All Mods**:- Click "Open" on the top bar.- Remove all remaining mods from the Game Mods Folder.

### Install the Mod Collection

1. **Add to Vortex**:- Go to the collection page on Nexus.- Click "Add to Vortex".
2. **New Profile**:- Add mods to a New Profile in Vortex.- **Note**: Nexus Premium users will have automatic downloads; Nexus Free users will follow manual installation steps.
3. **Install Optional Mods**:- Opt to install all Optional mods for full functionality.

### Pre-Launch Setup

1. **Configure SMAPI**:- Follow the [SMAPI installation guide](https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Installing_SMAPI_on_Windows#Configure_your_game_client).
2. **Check SMAPI Configuration**:- Ensure SMAPI shows a colorful Pufferfish Chicken icon on the Vortex Dashboard.
3. **Deploy Mods**:- Click "Deploy" on the top bar of the Mods tab in Vortex.
4. **Launch the Game**:- Click the Play button in the top left of Vortex to launch the game via SMAPI.

### Installation Instructions for Steam Deck

1. Install Stardew Valley via Steam in Desktop Mode and verify game file integrity.
2. Transfer modded game files from your PC to Steam Deck using a USB drive.

4. Add SMAPI as a Non-Steam Game in Steam and configure it for the correct compatibility mode.

1. Download mods manually from the Mods tab of the Collection page.
2. Merge the downloaded configuration files with your mods folder in the Stardew Valley directory. Use Option key + drag to merge.
3. Verify mod placements and launch the game to check the installation.

- Vortex automatically deploys the recommended configuration for this collection.
- If not using Vortex, manually merge the configuration file with your mods folder.

- (Light and Bright) Starblue Valley Unofficial pairs best Overgrown Flowery Interface (both from Fairycore). If this pair is selected, Fairycore's configuration should launch after Witchcore in Rules Management.
- If you elect to use use Gwen's Medieval Buildings rather than Tanga's Forest Buildings, you must also disable the Slime Hutch Restored mod.

## Troubleshooting

First, if you experience any issues with Vortex or the Collection, please try restarting Vortex or your computer! Sometimes this will fix everything and save you a lot of time!

## Possible Conflict Warning

- If you receive a Vortex error about a incompaible mods, please turn off one of the pairs. This just means the collection creator flagged them to not be used together because they would not work when together.
- If Vortex presents a conflict between any mod and a configuration or content override for this collection, please set the rule so that set the rule so that the configuration or content override should always launch after the other file. If you have conflicts between multiple configurations (due to stacking collections), the one that goes last will take precident. These rules are all preconfigured, but Vortex does not always properly deploy them to existing profiles.

### Common Issues

💢Seeing lots of red in SMAPI? Maybe a mod did not install correctly. This issue can often be solved by filtering "Enabled" mods inside Vortex, selecting them all with CTRL-A in the Mods view, and then clicking Reinstall in the bottom menu (do not right-click!)

✂️ If you're getting an error that mods are installed more than once, the easiest solution is to just remove the collection poster from the collections tab without removing any mods, then reinstall the collection to a new profile. This usually happens when mods are not removed during an update.

📅 If you previously installed mods without Vortex, those mods may try to load and create conflicts. It is highly recommend you remove them from your mod folder while using this collection. On the Mods tab click "Purge Mods" then go to Open > Open Game Mods Folder (not Staging). Remove all folders, then Deploy Mods in Vortex.

✋ If you receive an error in Vortex that Vortex needs to access a file but it is write protected, restart your Vortex app or your computer. If the file is SMAPI, temporarily disable it as your tool in Dashboard first.

> **A:** Yes, all players in the co-op game need to have the collection installed in order for it to work correctly. To ensure that everyone has the latest version of the collection and that all mods are installed properly, you can use Vortex and also double-check the number of mods running in SMAPI is the same for all players.

**Q:** There was an change to the collection (or a mod in the collection) and now there are trees/bushes in the way, how do I fix that?

You will need to temporarily disable the L hotkey from To-Dew in Mod Configuration Menu, since it uses the same hotkey, but this handy tool will let you fix any number of foliage-related disasters. Especially useful if you decide to start using this collection on a farm that was started on the default map.😉Tip: only enable this mod when you need it, it won't be very often (if ever,) but be sure to endorse it if it saves your bacon!
