**Undergoing Next Gen Updates as of July 10, 2024. Currently unplayable as lots of mods updated but Collections isn't using updated files despite me asking it to do so . . .. ETA for *****Noir Simone Redux***** in a few days(R).**

Time to dig down and slow your roll across the wasteland. Enjoy the dark visuals, gambling, gin joints, bright firefights, a whole new Rexford of your own making as a Triggerman-style character who speaks in Italian (and the occasional German), whose all-manner-of-suave earns a regular date with Magnolia -- singer extraordinaire of a more lavish Third Rail. How about setting up your own Triggermen gang to provide 'protection' to all those shitty little settlements? Hell, enjoy the animated activities with the ladies of either the Red Seat over in Diamond City or those from the Boston Bordello when you stop by. You can do all that in Noir Simone.

If you've ever seen the movie, Rocketeer, you know the mob doesn't like Nazis, and the Institute sure seems like it's got a lot of bad things being done in its name. Noir Simone is tied closely with the Railroad/synth resistance with a few mods to mix up their looks and equipment. Be careful though, you may think you know the password to the Railroad HQ, but you don't. You think you may know the locations of your favorite nostalgia like magazines and bobbleheads, but you don't. You may think you know where to find a certain scientist, but you don't. You. Don't.

All of that is utterly randomized. Plenty of other collectibles to find and display too. As for Reshade, the photos above use Enhanced n' Soft, Sin City preset. I love it. Reds pop, everything else is gritty.

There are a few mods to fix into specific Mod Index positions, explained below.

NEVER install Collections into your Default profile. Create a NEW profile for any new Collection with its own save game and ini files, naming the profile whatever you want. Switch to that profile. Go to the Plugins panel to ensure only the vanilla game files and any Creation Club content are there. Ensure that NO OTHER mods show as ENABLED. ALWAYS always always leave your Default profile clear of added mods so you can switch to it for testing. It also prevents you from installing conflicting Collections - what a mess that can make. Be sure of which Profile is currently active!

# A Dusty Dude Abides Collection

I have several basic Nexus mods of my own of the normal badlands/desert variety, plus two regular modlists based on the same called Desert and Deadlands. This is my fourth Collection, the others being Candied Starlight (Nuka Ride adult modlist), Redwood (badlands), and Misty Skye (kink in a boreal misty forest). # Main features

A themed Collection to gather your (Sim Settlement) Conqueror forces of either the Triggermen or the Pillars, a themed Collection to be a gritty noir mobster or even a grim detective sidekick, a themed Collection to slow your gameplay down to enjoy the visuals and world environment whilst you roust out the locals in search of old world nostalgia. Goodneighbor is more expanded, and includes new interior spaces going from the lowest sewer to the highest tower. The Third Rail is more lavish too, but the drinks are still dirty.

Best of all, you can now remake the Hotel Rexford anyway you like with my new custom settlement mod. It has its challenges being a location with some quests, and you can overcome most of them with Place Everywhere and a little judicious 'disable' and 'markfordelete' console action. Turn the Rexford into a gambling den, a booze joint, or even a place pretty-as-a-daisy destination spot in Boston. This isn't your depraved Rexford. You decide what goes there.

This Collection manages to connect Tales of the Commonwealth and Beantown Interiors with a proper previsbine patch, but load order is paramount.

# Before you start

You will be starting this Collection with Fallout 4 Script Extender, NOT the vanilla game loader. Several important elements of this Collection require you to manually manage some Vortex actions, specified below (replacer mods and Mod Index load order).

This Collection has a few mods that MUST be set to a proper load order, mods that are amazing by themselves, but get progressively more conflicted without being in the correct load order with the patches included here. There are NINE mods that you will need to manage yourself. It's easy. Don't fret. Just do it.

Could you let Vortex handle those mods automatically with a set of rules and such? Yup. Also having tested that option LABORIOUSLY, let's just say that it didn't always work well. Best to ensure that the main mod does exactly what you want despite whatever other mods you may add.

**Requirements**

First item to manage is the replacement of some elements of the Unique Creatures mod with the replacer, Unique Creatures Standalone Version. To copy mods from one place to another, right click on a mod while in the Mods panel. Open File Location. Copy the contents of the replacer mod, open the file location of the main mod, paste, overwrite, yes. Once you've copied the replacer mod into the main mod, the replacer mod should be set to show as DISABLED. Do not reinstall the main mod. That is now the replacer mod + the main mod's assets.

Why use an AWKCR-free version of Unique Creatures?  AWKCR is a troubled soul, but the problems of Unique Creatures are resolved very nicely by the removal of AWKCR as a requirement.

Second item to copy is the Combat Zone Restored Replacer file into the main Combat Zone Restored. Once you've done that, disable the replacer version just like you did for Unique Creatures replacer.

The next item is to drill down in the Enhanced Vanilla Bodies mod folder looking for the female versions - delete those specific files. Once all of the above is complete, use Vortex's DEPLOY button at the top, Vortex will ask if you want to save the new files, YES. Done.

Load Order - six regular .esp mods in this Collection plus three .esl mods need load order fixing. Head to the Plugins panel of Vortex. Sort by MOD INDEX so that all of the FE (##) mods are at the top. Scroll down until you see the regular plugins, which if you installed ONLY this Collection should be Mod Index #B1. Some Creation Club content may be in-between the .esl type mods and the .esps mods, also irrelevant.

Ensure that dce\_cluboutfits is #B1, dce\_femalebody is #B0, stm\_diamondcity is #AF, biggergoodneighbor is #AD, goodneighborexpanded is #AD, and third\_rail\_nightclub is #AC, effectively loading these six last of all of the regular plugins. You can fix\* their positions by double clicking them - a righthand side panel will open. At the bottom of that panel is the Sort field. Fix them to the slots I specified. It is easier in Vortex to place the cursor to the far right of the numbers, backspace twice, type in the new numbers. See below relating to fixing mods and Vortex's odd behavior relating to profiles.

Find the noir\_overrides mod first, Sort to fixed, but ignore the entry field entirely. You can't change that anyway. Next, find the 3DNPC patch, Sort. Finally, find the third rail patch, Sort. The last mod to load at this point should be my noir\_override patch.

**Hipoly Faces Mod**

Included is a high poly face/head mod. It has a custom neck seam feature you can turn on IF you are a female. Once in your character, go into the MCM to that mod, Seam category. ENABLE, close MCM. A pop-up will tell you what to do, but it's easy if you've ever used Looksmenu (slm 14 in console).

IF you wanted your spouse to have a custom look too (because you can revive them later with Curie in tow btw with the AFT mod), open their pod, click on them in console so it shows their name and ID. Type slm and then their ID shown in the console (example: slm 00ff3576), change to the preset you want, Done. I would highly suggest using a preset though as you won't be able to really see their face very well all frozen like that.

**Bodyslide**

If you want your clothes to fit the curvy type, or want to change your CBBE body type to be something other than curvy, you will need to use Bodyslide. You can find tutorials on that in YouTube and elsewhere. Some of the mods like the Strap-On mod may need built as well, or they may clip. Obviously I cannot include those assets bundled here, so you would need to do it yourself. It's actually pretty easy, and fun shaping outfits to tightly fit your character. Some outfits also include 'zaps' which allow you to alter the outfit by removing various features like boots, tops, pants, etc. Not all bodyslide files allow that, but you will know it when you see it. Be sure to educate yourself on the Batch Build process so you can automate nearly all clothes for a body type, then alter individual ones as you see fit.

That lady from the defunct radio station won't be the only seamstress in this house.

**Niero's Textures**

A couple of the mods here will have very low rez textures unless you hit up Niero's site to obtain the higher rez textures, all of which can be obtained free (https://niero.gumroad.com/, scroll down if you don't see it initially as the website will continue to load new items). You will need the Handmaiden, and also the Mojave Manhunter texture packs.

Noir Simone doesn't have landscape replacers, and most things are properly previsbined.

# Compatible collections or other mods

There are about 170 standard mods here, but I'd suggest only very specific non-landscape, non-combat, non-loot mods you like.

- The Profile feature of Vortex is NOT like that of Mod Organizer 2. Different Profiles that contain the same mods may be problematic if a mod (like Better Goodneighbor or Diamond City Expansion) are allowed to wander based on a Collection's rules or your own personal preferences. As a modder and modlist curator that has used those mods extensively, I can tell you that if you don't Fix those mods to load near the last of all mods, you will get unexpected badness in lots of places, even culling.

IF you have multiple profiles with some of the same mods, you need to ensure that mods with load order needs are managed each time you switch to the profile as appropriate. Again, for example, in this Collection it is vital to have Third Rail, Goodneighbor expanded, Diamond City Expansion and their various patches as the last regular mods to load, say #B1, but in another profile with that mod it may not be B1 and can't be B1 because you have a lot more other mods. Mod Index needs altered, and you can do that with Rules, but as stated above, that doesn't always work well. Fixing a mod in a Profile DOES work, and works very nicely, thank you very much.

By contrast, each Profile in MO2 maintains its own load order sorting. That's the Gold Standard, honestly. Until then . . . be sure of where specific mods need to be, and which profile you're currently in.

# Fixes

Vortex saying two mods are redundant? Ignore Vortex. Barber chair fix and Eye waterline are as they should be.
