You can then choose if you want it to download and install the mods from the [Shadow of War Mod Collection](https://github.com/ReaperAnon/Shadow-Of-War-Mods), which is a series of mods that will allow you to customize and enhance your gameplay experience. Together, this collection gives you all the essentials for a quick and easy start to modding Shadow of War. All you have to do is click the "ADD TO VORTEX" button, then you're ready to experience the game with mods. It's really that easy!

# Setup

If you don't have [Vortex](https://www.nexusmods.com/site/mods/1) downloaded and installed already, you can checkout this guide for [Getting Started with Vortex](https://modding.wiki/en/vortex/users/getting-started).

> If you have previously installed mods for the game manually, you need to make sure that you have uninstalled all mod loaders and mods before managing the game with Vortex. If you don't do this, it will lead to problems.

If this is your first time modding the game you might get this error message:\

This is because the game extension expects you to make a backup of the original "**bink2w64.dll**" (367 KB) file inside of your game's installation folder, because the [Middle Earth Mod Loader](https://github.com/ReaperAnon/Middle-Earth-Mod-Loader) replaces it. You can do this by following these simple steps:

1. Locate the "**bink2w64.dll**" (367 KB) file in the "**x64**" folder found here: `<path-to-game>\ShadowOfWar\x64\bink2w64.dll`.
2. Make a copy of the file and rename it to `bink2w64_.dll`, adding an underscore to the name. You should now have "**bink2w64.dll**" (367 KB) and "**bink2w64\_.dll**" (367 KB) in this folder.
3. Open Vortex and manage the game again. The game extension will now recognize the file and automatically creates a new "**plugins**" folder inside of the "**x64"** folder, which is where your enabled mods will be located.&#x20;

That's it, now you can install mods for Shadow of War with Vortex.

## Autocomplete Item Challenges

Automatically completes item challenges and lets you upgrade all weapons with secondary abilities at any time.

## Cheat Hotkeys

Adds a set of hotkeys to enable god mode, infinite arrows, might, focus, wrath and mission timers.

## **Elven Speed**

Reworks the focus cost of the elven speed ability and lets you define your focus regeneration rate while using it. By default it's set to pause focus regen instead of draining it like in vanilla.

## FOV Extender

Extends the game's field of view beyond its maximum value.

- Configurable in-game with the MCM (F10).

## Improved Ice Storm

Improves the mandatory Ice Storm still so it doesn't count as a straight downgrade or at best a sidegrade. You can use normal attacks to damage frozen enemies like in the DLCs or use the wraith flurry attack on demand when desired instead of needlessly being dragged into slow animation with long recovery in the middle of combat.

Can also use the regular wraith stun which simply stuns enemies instead of freezing them, making it still useful against enemies who are either immune to or enraged by frost.

- Configurable in-game with the MCM (F10).

## Indomitable Hitstreaks

Being hit will no longer reset your hitstreak while in combat.

## Mounted Might Multiplier

Increases the amount of might gained when fighting while mounted on creatures. Makes it feel like less of a downgrade to hop on a caragor, as creatures are rather niche and not that useful later in the game for anything except cheesing enemies.

## Multi-Equip Skills

Lets you equip multiple skill upgrades with a modifier key instead of being forced to only ever have just one.

## Myrian Loss Multiplier

Changes the amount of Mirian lost. Doesn't change the cost requirements, only the amount that you lose when you purchase upgrades or anything else.

- Configurable in-game with the MCM (F10).

## Orc Spawn Rarity

Grants two options to define an additional spawn chance for epic and legendary tier enemies that is calculated on top of the base game's system. Can make the game harder by spawning tougher orcs.

## Skill Level Requirements

Removes skill level requirements so you can buy any skill at any level, making the early game more interesting.

## No Skill Prerequisites

Removes the requirement of having previous main skills in the skill tree. Lets you buy any main skill upgrade without forcing you to buy all the ones before it as well, making the early game more interesting.

## No Skill Story Locks

Removes story-locked skills, allowing you to spend a point and unlock the skills before playing their prerequisite quests.

## Uruk Intel

Lets you remove the mystery orcs with a blacked out character model or alternatively lets you show all of their weaknesses as well from the start. Having all weaknesses uncovered can mess with some main quests and lock progression until that option is disabled and the quest is restarted.

# Usage

Simply download the mod you want and install it by dragging and dropping the archive into the Vortex window or use the "Install From File" option. Wait for the installation to finish and deploy the mods.

All options for these mods (if they have any) and for the [Middle Earth Mod Loader](https://github.com/ReaperAnon/Middle-Earth-Mod-Loader) itself can be modified in-game.

- The default hotkey to open the **Mod Configuration Menu** is **F10**.
- The default hotkey to open the **Log Menu** is **Tilde (\`)**.

# Known Issues

Changing any of the settings in the Options menu of the game or starting a New Game leads to a crash while the mod menu is loaded.

To avoid this issue you should set the Windowed Mode to Borderless and if you need to change the Options or start a New Game you can simply disable the [Middle Earth Mod Loader](https://github.com/ReaperAnon/Middle-Earth-Mod-Loader) to do so, then re-enable it again afterwards.

# Shadow of War Packet Loader

The [Shadow of War Packet Loader](https://www.nexusmods.com/middleearthshadowofwar/mods/49) is required to install and use any **Packet Mods**. These mods are **folders with loose files** containing custom assets that is used by the [Shadow of War Packet Loader](https://www.nexusmods.com/middleearthshadowofwar/mods/49) to replace specific assets from the base game. This could be character models, weapons, outfits and more.

# Usage

Simply download the mod you want and install it by dragging and dropping the archive into the Vortex window or use the "Install From File" option. Wait for the installation to finish and deploy the mods.

When you start the game, the **console window** for the [Shadow of War Packet Loader](https://www.nexusmods.com/middleearthshadowofwar/mods/49) will pop up. This will show you if it were able to find the files and overwrite them. You can just minimize this window when playing the game.

If the mod doesn't show in-game, it's most likely because you don't have the right **signature files** that's needed for your game. Then you will simply have to generate these **signature files** yourself, and you can do so by following these steps:

1. Open the **PacketLoader.ini** file located here: `<path-to-game>\ShadowOfWar\x64\plugins\PacketLoader\Internal\PacketLoader.ini` and set the cache to **generate**: `cache = 0`.
2. Load into the game and see if the replacement works. If it did, it means that the [Shadow of War Packet Loader](https://www.nexusmods.com/middleearthshadowofwar/mods/49) successfully generated the new signature files and are now reading these signatures.
3. Close the game, then open the **PacketLoader.ini** file again located here: `<path-to-game>\ShadowOfWar\x64\plugins\PacketLoader\Internal\PacketLoader.ini` and set the cache back to **read**: `cache = 1`.

Now you can play the game normally with the mods installed. If you install a new mod and this happens again, you will just have to follow this process again.

> The generate mode uses a lot of resources and increases the loading times in the game, so it should only be used when you need to generate new signature files.
