The goal of this collection was to make things easier and to expand/improve Oblivion as much as possible, but since it won't be possible unless I really expand the guides for it (Which defeats the point), it's just better to stop using Vortex since the years of me using it were really painful, Mod Organizer 2 has been a blessing, use it instead, and use my collection to get the great mods.

##### I ask you to try to read this whole page and the instructions that come with the collection on Vortex itself.

This should be everything you'd need to play Skyrim without entirely losing the original experience.

###### I highly recommended that you start with a fresh install of Skyrim Special Edition, if not, issues can arise. You have been warned (;

## BEFORE ADDING COLLECTION:

- 1. Download [SKSE](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/30379), and install it through Vortex.
- 1. Run the launcher then set your settings, then close the launcher.
- 1. Launch the game using the SKSE loader (Use vortex or go to the game's root folder, it's where the normal SkyrimSE.exe is, and launch skse64\_loader.exe - Feel free to make a shortcut on your Desktop). When in-game it will ask you to download Anniversary Edition, do it.
- 1. Once it's done, press "Creation Club" then "Download All". Since Bethesda sucks you gotta have the window active to actually download, (i.e see it download).
- 1. Exit the game and go to Vortex, then, [create a new profile](https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Setting_up_profiles_in_Vortex#:~:text=Once%20you%20exit%20the%20settings%2C%20a%20new%20option,will%20open%20the%20form%20with%20the%20following%20options%3A), using the default profile has a likelihood of causing issues.

^ Was needed for a few things, like creating needed files, getting requirements, and more. ^

### Required + Recommended

> - 1. Read all instructions (Will appear in Vortex) or the full guide unless you are an expert in Bethesda black magic.
> - 1. Start a new game and ensure Skyrim works normally on your system before attempting to mod it (After you are finished installing the collection fully you should start a new save).
> - 1. (*I Recommend*) Create a bashed after installing the collection. This provides untold technomagical (really good) power to you and the game. One will be provided but it requires all patched mods in it to be preset and disabled if not it will cause issues.
> - 1. (*I Recommend*) Get [Loot](https://github.com/loot/loot/releases) the one that comes with vortex might miss stuff or not tell about issues, so get this to fix said issues. I will try my best to include loader order changes in the collection but Loot can fix numerous issues and more.
> - 1. (*I Recommend*) [Clean the DLC for the game and mods](https://youtu.be/YpRinGULJGw?t), I will clean as many mods as I can for you but I can't do the same for the DLC, sorry. NOTE: Avoid cleaning DLC if you wanna add total overhaul mods to the game (none are in the collection by default).
> - 1. (*I Recommend*) When you load a save, or enter/exit a building there's a black screen where everyone but you can move for a few seconds, [check this page](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/23743) to fix it.
> - 1. (*I Recommend*) Use [Cathedral Assets Optimizer](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/23316?tab=description) A guide on how to use it is in my guide.

### Optionals

> - (*Optional*) Get [BethINI](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/4875) and use it to improve your settings.
> - (*Optional*) Only run the with Vortex or the SKSE Loader and only set your settings with [BethINI](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/4875) or by editing the .ini files directly, this means SKSE actually works and you don't have the launcher messing up your settings.
> - (*Optional*) Write down which revision of the collection you started your save game. This way you can go back and play it later (even years from now) or if any issues arise from using newer revisions.
> - (*Optional*) For many reasons (mainly because of your actions) saves can get bloated and this will mess up your experience, so you can use [Fallrim Tools](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/5031) to clean your saves, not something you need if you take care of your saves though. Hint: Don't remove mods mid-save to not mess up your saves.
> - While optional, having premium will make this much faster, but if you don't mind spending a bit more time then ignore this. I didn't have it, wasn't a great experience but it's better than having no collection like this to use, your welcome and thanks if you use it (;

### Performance Optional Step | FPS Increase Using AI Upscaling

[Skyrim Upscaler](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/80343) adds DLSS/FSR2/XeSS support to Skyrim to get a ton more FPS, since this collection is performance heavy you may wanna use this.

## Minimum Specs:

> - Anniversary Edition On Steam (1.6.640)
> - 8 GB RAM
> - i5 Intel CPU (or AMD equivalent)
> - 4 GB VRAM GPU
> - 589 GB HDD Free Space (Depends on mods you pick | May change in future revisions)

I'm not officially an expert but I know a good amount, it's safe to have system specs lower than this since you can lower settings or not get performance-heavy mods. Let me know if you are struggling with performance.

## Recommended Specs:

> - Anniversary Edition On Steam (1.6.640)
> - 16 GB RAM (Not absolutely needed)
> - i5 Intel CPU (or AMD equivalent)
> - 8 GB VRAM GPU

>   If you don't have enough space or don't wanna use this much on Skyrim feel free to not get most of the texture mods. If you do, make sure to disable Gem of The North - GOTN - DynDOLOD & Gem of The North - GOTN - TEXLOD to prevent any issues.

Sadly some mods cannot be installed with mod managers (<-- at least Vortex) and need manual installation, these are:

- [Skyrim SE 3D Sound](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/1897?tab=files\&file_id=2179) (This one is optional but it's great)
- [SSE Parallax Shader Fix (BETA)](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/31963?tab=files) (Get the d3dcompiler\_47)

#### ^^^ Place their contents where SkyrimSE.exe is (e.g E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition) ^^^

Don't try to use Vortex to install those ^, it will place them in the data folder which means they won't work.

For animations you need to use Nemesis, I instructed Vortex to include the Tool location but encase it doesn't make sure to follow this [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5BiicQ4DAU\&ab_channel=chanse), if it's there simply launch it and follow these instructions:

First press "Update Engine"  then:

##### (In Order - Don't select any you choose not to install)

- Archery Gameplay Overhaul SE
- Precision
- Payload Interpreter
- Gender-Specific Animations
- Jump Behavior Overhaul
- TK Dodge RE / Ultimate Combat

After that press "Launch Nemesis Behavior Engine".

When you add/or remove a mod you need to redo this process and the ones you select will depend on what you did.

Vortex sucks quite a bit, it might create backups that break Nemesis, make sure to delete those if Nemesis fails, go to Skyrim Special Edition\Data\Nemesis\_Engine\mod then search .vortex\_backup and delete any you find.

### Make sure the following are disabled or better yet ghosted (using Vortex in the plugins tab) Saves you some issues/annoyances:

When a new revision is released please make sure to disable all mods (unless you added any mods) as well as the collection itself then re-enable the collection, this can be done in the mods tab in Vortex.

### Make sure to check the changelog before updating. This can prevent breaking your saves, if a mod has to be removed because it's broken make sure to use the [Fallrim Tools](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/5031) resaver to clean up your saves.

Vortex may not remove mods that the collection doesn't include anymore or update modes that were updated in the collection, if that is the case please make sure to do so yourself, if not, issues may arise.

I will be doing a full playthrough of the game with the collection, making sure to solve as many issues and adding more mods that I think belong in the collection and or I feel are required or missing for a playthrough.

### "Plugin missing dependency"

Disable those ESPs, the collection either wasn't intended to have their dependencies or you didn't get their dependencies that were already in the collection. This could be because you not doing the prerequisites part where you need to disable some plugins. If it's not any of those make sure to report this to me.

### Game Crashing On Startup

Update the collection under the mods tab in Vortex. If this doesn't work, reinstall the collection but **don't** delete the archives of the mods, this way you don't have to re-download them.

### Reproducible/Reoccuring Game Crash

Share the details of it in the bugs section with as much info as possible. Feel free to use the comment section as well. Again, please don't report any to the original mod pages.

### SKSE not launching or the game crashing.

Try to run skse64\_loader.exe directly, not through Vortex and never through steam

### Whitehead and neck Bug

Make a save then reload it. This bug occurs right after you leave the cave it seems. I will try to find a fix.

### SKSE reports "Name".dll incompatible or outdated

Report it in the comments or bug section.

Again, report them in the bugs section (<-- preferable) or comment section, I'll be happy to help.

# Low-End PCs

As aforementioned, I will try to provide low(er)-end PC support, this can be useful if you wanna use the steam deck (If that even works in the first place), please follow the steps:

> - Get [BethINI](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/4875), open it, select Skyrim SE, then pick a preset, it's safe to go one step higher than the Skyrim launcher gives you, so if it auto-detected Low you can go mid and so on and so forth.
> - While still in [BethINI](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/4875) click "Recommended Tweaks" it's on the same page as the presets. If you want you can change some settings with BethINI (not all are performance degrading) then save and exit.
> - Don't get any of the 4k texture mods (Unless they are a requirement of another mod), or the Display Tweaks High Configuration, if you got either you should probably disable them
