# A Favor I Ask

If you flag this collection as "not working", please be so kind to tell me what exactly does not work (in the comments). With every update, I install this collection on my laptop from scratch, load 11 savegames (one in a tavern, one in a village, one in a cave, etc.) and try to start a new game. If there are any errors, I create a new revision with the last working mod list.

If you don't let me know about errors you received, I can never fix them.

# Disclaimer

This collection...:

- ...is "work in progress" - not all mods are updated for the GOG version, yet. Also there are a lot of new mods coming out, still. Interesting mods will be added to the collection, if any arise. All collection updates will be "mid-game-safe" (safe to install during a playthrough).
- ...was made for Skyrim Anniversary Edition on GOG (v1.6.659.0.8 - English) - no other versions are supported (and there must be NO MODS INSTALLED).
- ...is also focused on visual enhancements, thus the FPS-impact can be rather large on older systems (it uses ENB).

# Description

"Skyrim GOG Enhanced Edition" is a collection of visual and gameplay mods. I made this collection for myself and uploaded it here, because I re-installed my Windows and needed to put my stuff somewhere. So now that I'm here, I will try to sum up what I had in mind when modding my Skyrim:

- Visually enhance the game (meshes, textures, weathers, lighting, etc.)
- Overhaul the gameplay (combat, perks, experience points, animations, etc.)
- Make Skyrim worth re-visiting (city and village overhauls, wildlife, encounters, weapons, armors, etc.)
- Keep the story vanilla, in order to not wander off the lore-path (no new quests, other than what vanilla Skyrim and all the DLCs offer)
- Make Skyrim bleed atmosphere - from the deepest mine to the highest mountain top the visuals, ambience and gameplay are to make you feel immersed way beyond what vanilla Skyrim was able to accomplish.

# Installation

The collection will only work as intended, if you follow these steps:

- Make sure your Skyrim installation is clean (no old modding files or anything out of the ordinary).
- If you plan on using the recommended or any other ENB preset, be sure to turn off your ingame overlay (if you are using GOG Galaxy), otherwise your game will crash on startup (ENB is not compatible with overlays).
- Adjust your advanced setting like so:- Uncheck "Screen Space Reflections"- Uncheck "Screen Space Ambient Occlusion"- Uncheck "Precipitation Occlusion"
- Run Skyrim.
- Make a save somewhere.
- Quit Skyrim.
- Install SKSE (https://skse.silverlock.org/).
- Install Part 2 (ONLY PART 2!) of the SSE Engine Fixes (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/17230).
- Download and install the collection (WAIT UNTIL THE INSTALLATION IS COMPLETE - DO NOT INTERACT WITH ANY VORTEX MESSAGES - see last screenshot of this collection - there will also be red warning messages you can ignore, those are thrown since not every file of every mod is needed and thus not installed by this collection).
- Install the GOG compatible version of "FSMP" (currently a testing version, not available on nexus, only here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AnjD\_1wmUEoGdNomgYjyTf6bVuY?e=hiJ4rl)
- Install ENB and the "Ultimate Immersion" ENB Preset according to this description: https://eso-ui.com/ultimate-immersion-se-enb/
- Install and run Nemesis (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/60033).\
  1\. Check the following boxes:\
  &#x20;  \- Precision\
  &#x20;  \- Extra Drawing Animations\
  &#x20;  \- SkySA\
  &#x20;  \- True Directional Movement... (there should be three boxes)\
  2\. Click "Update Engine" and wait for the process to complete.\
  3\. Click "Launch Nemesis Behavior Engine" and wait for the process to complete.\
  4\. Close Nemesis.
- (Optional) Install Reshade (https://reshade.me) with all available effects and then install the custom preset (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/77890)
- (Optional) Apply the ini tweaks from below

# Six Things to Know

Those things you should know concerning the gameplay:

- "Alternate Start": You will start the game with the character creation in a dungeon (press "Shift"+"F12" to disable ENB, if you don't like the lighting conditions during character creation). When done, interact with the Statue of Mara to choose how you want to start the game (vanilla or else). This mod was added to the collection to provide a solution to those who encounter the "crazy cart" bug (vanilla Skyrim bug).
- "True Directional Movement": In combat you can lock onto enemies using the click of the mouse wheel (or the click of the right analog stick, when using a controller).
- "SXP": additionally to the vanilla Skyrim levelling system, a new system is implemented. The new system lets you gather XP from all kinds of activities and spend those XP by using the MCM (mod configuration menu) - the first menu, called "A SXP". To re-balance things, vanilla level progression speed is halved. Additionally lockpicking and other easy-to-level skills are except from vanilla XP gain (if you don't like that, uncheck "Prevent XP Gain" under the "General" tab in the "A SXP" MCM menu).
- Since "SXP" gives experience for exploration (finding new places, gathering herbs, etc.), fast travelling is disabled (to make everything more coherent -> teleporting into the wilderness, discovering a bunch of stuff and loading up your backpack, then teleporting back to some safe Inn, is no viable gameplay-loop anymore - at least not without a cost).\
  But since Skyrim's gameplay was built on fast travelling, such a System cannot simply be cut from the game. To prevent the game from getting cumbersome, there are carriage stops all over Skyrim now (in all Cities, Towns and along the main roads). Using this travelling system will cost 50-200 septims per travel (depending on the distance and some other variables).\
  Alternatively, you can craft a travelling pack at a forge, which will allow you to fast travel (one fast travel per pack - each pack weighs 5 pounds).
- "Paper UI": to get the true RPG feeling (at least for me), the UI has been adjusted - the quest log, the menus, the map, etc. (most of the UI) has been reskinned to ensemble the book pages fantastic stories get written on :)\
  Also the stealth indicator has been put at the bottom of the screen, so it won't interfere with your bow sniping in stealth mode.
- Pop-ups: On starting a new game you will get some informational popups from some mods. According to feedback I received, depending on your system, the game may seem non-responsive when the first one pops up - just wait a bit and the game will load as usual.

# Recommended specs

I play on 1920x1080 resolution (upscaled to 1440p via AMD drivers) with these specs (~55 FPS average):

- RX 6900 XT
- AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
- 32 GB RAM

# Ini Tweaks

Those ini tweaks are used by me. Not using them yourself can result in unwanted visual bugs.

## Mountain Flickering Fix

If you encounter the common mountain flickering (far away mountains flicker on camera movement), here is how you can reduce this problem (this problem is not introduced by this collection, but is a vanilla Skyrim problem):

In your SkyrimPrefs.ini set the following:

In the \[TerrainManager] section:

- fTreeLoadDistance=75000.0000
- fBlockLevel0Distance=75000.0000
- fBlockLevel1Distance=1400000.0000
- fBlockMaximumDistance=500000.0000
- fSplitDistanceMult=4.0000

In the \[MAIN] section:

- fSkyCellRefFadeDistance=500000.0000

In your Skyrim.ini add the follwing line in the \[Display] section:

- fNearDistance=25.0000

## More Particles

If you want more particles to be rendered (e.g. for fire effects and such),  in your SkyrimPrefs.ini set the following:

In the \[Particles] section:

- iMaxDesired=1500

## Grass Density

If you want to adjust the grass density, you have to modify the "iMinGrassSize" value in the following files:

- Grass FPS Booster.ini
- QW's Grass Patch 2.ini
- Folkvangr - Grass and Landscape Overhaul.ini
- Cathedral - 3D Pine Grass.ini

The lower you set the value, the denser the grass gets. I play with a value of 120 (not very dense).

# Additional Information

For those wanting to add mods onto this collection - know that there are about 200 non-ESL-flagged plugins already in this collection (including the vanilla plugins). So you only have 50 non-ESL-flagged plugins left to use.
