# Present and Future

### Odyssey is in very active development and features an up-to-date modlist of all the best mods and tweaks available. With that said, Starfield modding is still in a very early stage and therefore this does not reflect my complete vision of the game yet.

### If you've enjoyed my previous modlists ([Constellations](https://next.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/collections/9zfscf), [Path of the Prophet](https://next.nexusmods.com/enderalspecialedition/collections/xrfd91)) this will need no further information, you can expect the same design principles and quality here!

Adding additional mods to the collection is **highly discouraged** unless you're very experienced with modding.

**Before installing the collection:**

- A nexus premium account is recommended for an automated installation.&#x20;
- You need a fresh installation of [Starfield](https://store.steampowered.com/agecheck/app/1716740/) on Steam in English.
- [Install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package](https://aka.ms/vs/16/release/vc_redist.x64.exe) *(if you don't already have it)*
- Right-click Starfield in Steam -> Properties -> Updates -> Turn On "Only Update this game when I launch it"

**Installing the collection:**

- Install [Vortex](https://www.nexusmods.com/site/mods/1?tab=files), open it, and update it to the latest version
- If you already have Starfield mods installed in Vortex, it's highly recommended to uninstall them to avoid conflicts *(Vortex profiles don't fix that)*
- Head to the "Settings" section in Vortex and disable: "Install Mods when downloaded" *(if it's not already disabled)*

- Install the collection *(Press "Add to Vortex" at the top of this page)*
- When prompted about which profile you want to use, press "Use new Profile" and switch to that profile when asked
- Don't install all optional mods. Check out the "Optional Mods" section below for more info.

***

**After installing the collection:**

- If there are unresolved file conflicts or other errors: Please refer to the guide posted on [my Discord](https://discord.gg/UF6aV3S) in the #faq channel
- Head to the "Mods" section and "Deploy Mods" *(repeat this process whenever you change ANYTHING in the collection)*
- Head to "Documents\My Games\Starfield" and delete the Data folder there (**DON'T** delete the Data folder in the Steam directory)

- Head to the "Dashboard" section and press the 3 dots from the "Starfield Script Extender", click "Make Primary"
- **Always** start the game with the upper left "Play" icon in Vortex
- Start the game, wait about 10 seconds in the main menu, then quit the game *(if the game instantly starts into the main menu the next time you start the game, this step worked correctly)*

# Update Instructions

***

- Read and follow the update instructions of **every** Revision you want to update in the changelog section
- Every update instruction will mention if a new game is required, highly recommended, or not needed
- Head to the Collection section in Vortex and press Update. If you're asked to delete old mods, confirm
- After the update is successfully downloaded and installed, deploy your mods
- Head to the "Mods" section, open "Manage Rules", and press "Hide Resolved"
- Load the optional mods after everything else
- Deploy the mods again

**If a new game is recommended but you want to update and continue your playthrough read this:**

- Beware that some things might not work as stated in the changelog and unforeseen issues can rarely arise
- When reporting bugs please always state that you updated the collection on an existing playthrough
- When you're several major Revisions behind it's highly disadvised to update the collection on an existing playthrough

# Optional Mods

***

### There are several optional mods included in Odyssey, none of these are recommended but provide a way to configure the game to your liking.

***

**Install instructions for optional mods:**

- Read the description of the mods down below
- Head to the "Collections" section in Vortex, click "View" on Odyssey, head to the "Mods" tab, and add the "Recommended" filter to the "Required" column
- After installing the mod, install/activate the mod and deploy mods

**Optional mods are save-game compatible unless otherwise stated**

### Easy Digipick

This practically removes the Digipick minigame for people who don't enjoy it.

### Classic Sprinting for Starfield

Changes sprint button to only sprint when the button is held instead of acting like a toggle.

# Reverting Starfield Version

***

Starfield updates break a lot of mods, and it takes time for the authors to update their mods. If you get an error message that tells you that your game version doesn't work with your current setup here are instructions to revert to an older version of Starfield:

- *Open the run menu (Windows Key + R)*
- *Type "steam://open/console/" and hit enter*
- *Enter the command "download\_depot 1716740 1716741 *8383043874900915235*" into the console*
- *Head to the folder path in the last line of the console*
- *Copy the containing files into the Starfield game folder (Steam\steamapps\common\Starfield)*

If you want to update the game to the newest version again, you may need to validate files on Steam

- Right-click Starfield in Steam -> Properties -> Installed Files -> Verify Integrity of game files

# Known Issues

***

- The "Larger Fonts" option is not fully compatible with the collection
- Photo Mode pictures are saved into "Steam\steamapps\common\Starfield\Data\Textures\Photos"
- Steam Overlay will no longer work in-game
- Exiting to the main menu and loading a save again or going into NG+ will cause many mods to stop working *(restart the game and load your game to fix this)*
- Controllers don't work when starting the game with Vortex, you have to add the SFSE executable to Steam as a non-Steam Game and run it from there
