New Vegas Rebuilt is a huge modding guide for Fallout New Vegas I've been writing since 2020. It's written from a complete beginner perspective as I wrote the guide whilst delving into New Vegas for the first time optimising the final selection after 200+ hours of playing. I referenced several other mod guides during the process.

Its designed to fix bugs, improve stability, restore as much cut content as possible, refine vanilla gameplay, further expand it with gameplay additions that tonally fit the original and finally remaster every conceivable graphical aspect. The final mod list totals around 400 mods.

These Collections are being released before the guide for testing. Each Collection represents a specific overhaul area category with 11 overall. You should be able to modularly mix-and-match the Collections to your own preferences if you wish to do so.

By trying out this Collection before the guide release, you're essentially testing the Collections for me. I'm all ears to feedback and encourage you to comment letting me know if the Collection worked as expected. I'm open to further suggestions that suit the category this particular Collection overhauls. Once the guide is released it should be fully read on release before installing any Collections as it explains what each mod does in detail.

# First Time Players Suggestion

If you're looking for a purist vanilla experience on your first playthrough of Fallout New Vegas, I'd recommend installing this Collection combination:

This combination will optimize performance, restore cut content and refine vanilla gameplay without radically changing it's original feel. The remaining Collections overhaul gameplay systems further, add major visual overhauls and functional post-game ending content. You could skip Restored Content and Gameplay HD if you want to be a radically pure purist about your first vanilla playthrough.

# Collection Testing

I’ve grouped my mod recommendations into categorised sections. I’d highly recommend starting a new game with zero mods, saving in Doc Mitchell’s house immediately after using the Vigor Tester (stat creation) before you go outside and loading it up after each mod section to test if everything works as expected. Saving there lets you test interior loading, exterior loading when you exit the house, NPC interaction and combat quickly.

**Please be aware that due to the huge number of mods New Vegas may still crash unpredictably. Autosaving is also known to cause problems. Turn off autosaves in Settings and manually save regularly to avoid crashes causing any save corruption.**

# Notable Stewie Tweak Settings

Here are the important mechanic tweaks you should be aware of in your playthrough. The optional 'Tweaks List' mod file documents every tweak I enabled in detail (there's around 60 overall).

- Hide HUD key - I've set this to hide the compass by pressing C as with my UI setup I like making the compass visible in exteriors but hidden for interiors. It's otherwise marked as Always On via Immersive HUD. Adjust key manually as you wish.
- Open Map Key - set to M by default to save you having to open your Pipboy and switch to that menu. I also enabled Show Local Map in interiors. Adjust key manually as you wish. I didn't enable the Pipboy Items key as the logical selection, i, clashes with the default Immersive HUD key and I can't think of a better key at the moment.
- Radio Skip Song Key - pressing \[ will let you skip the currently playing radio song if you're tired of hearing it. Adjust key manually as you wish.
- No Skill Tags - some dialogue options are a skill check giving you alternative solutions if you have a high enough relevant skill. By default it specifies which skill is tested and how many points you need, allowing you to easily jump back a save and boost that stat via levelling up or temporarily with drugs or magazines. Turning this tweak on covers the skill check label and skill value you need which improves immersion since dialogue doesn’t explicitly say when your skills are checked, but the lines are written in such a way that they imply a skill may be used. The skill check text changes if you have enough points or not, so by reading carefully you can infer which dialogue is a skill check. By default I've made it show the Skill only and no skill number value so skill checks are a bit more explicit for first time players, but you can cover it entirely for maximum immersion via changing the option in the ‘Tweaks’ menu.
- Hide Enemies on Compass with 'Show firing enemies' ticked and No Compass Pips If Not in Danger - hides NPC compass icons unless they’re shooting at you for added immersion.
- Robotic Companions Heal With Scrap Metal
- Revive Unconscious Companions - use Stimpacks to revive unconscious companions
- Pause Holotapes - click on a holotape to pause it, double click to unpause
- Fallout 76 Encumbrance – you can use AP for movement when over-encumbered
- Barter Affects Repair Costs - self-explanatory. Makes Barter more useful.
- Remember Bobby Pin Health - the health of your Bobby pins is remembered across saves. You should be a bit more careful when lockpicking now.
- No Scale NPC Damage Resistance By Condition and No Scale NPC Damage Threshold By Condition - difficulty tweak making it so when you attack enemies it calculates your damage as if they're wearing brand spanking new armor. There's a similar option for their weapon damage. Use or don't as you like.

# Other Mod Notes

Brave New World contains compatibility patches for several mods included within the other NV Rebuilt Collections. When installing this for the first time, please note the patch options provided. You should reinstall BNW when installing these other mods via the other NV Rebuilt Collections so BNV adds the compatibility patches as required.
