# Description

*I've been playing and modding TESV: Skyrim since about 2013, and modding has come a long way. When Skyrim Special Edition released, modding changed. Many of the great mods I'd come to love had become obsolete or broken. It took several years for authors to return to update their great mods for the new engine changes... Bethesda then, in 2021 did the unthinkable, they broke mods once again.*

*Well, I'm done. Done with modding, done with Skyrim, done with Bethesda... Until I couldn't lay it down. I needed one last hoorah to have something I can cherish for the rest of my time with the game. It's my joy to bring you a mod list that features mods that many have decided to move on from. This is my best attempt at making the game the best it can be, for me at least, even though it has only 140 mods and less than a 10gb download.*

# Installation

\[Note]: It is recommended to have at least some knowledge with Windows filing and Vortex, along with a general understand of how basic modding works.

\[Disclaimer]: This list is made with high performance in mind and should run on any systems that can run the original title.

### -Installing Skyrim SE-

1. Install TESV: Skyrim Anniversary Edition for Steam. Under game properties, disable the AE upgrade if you have it. Next, launch the game and let the configuration files generate. You can exit after that.
2. Now we're going to install game version 1.5.97. This will allow the game to remain stable, due to SSE no longer receiving updates. Navigate to your game properties once more. Under Updates, select the option "Only update this game when I launch it".
3. Next, make sure Steam is online, then press Win+R and paste "steam://open/console" in the field and select to run.
4. After that, copy and paste the following into the console, one at a time and wait for the download to finish:  "download\_depot 489830 489831 7848722008564294070", "download\_depot 489830 489832 8702665189575304780", "download\_depot 489830 489833 2289561010626853674".
5. Now locate your steamapps/content folder. Open up each depot and copy all the files in each of the three folders and paste them into your main game folder, overriding all files when prompted.
6. Lastly, in your steamapps/common/Skyrim Special Edition/Data folder, delete the left behind Creation Club content:

### -Installing the Collection-

1. Install [SKSE64](https://skse.silverlock.org/) version 2.0.20. Simply extract into your game folder.
2. Download [(Part 2) Engine Fixes - skse64 Preloader and TBB Lib](https://www.nexusmods.com/Core/Libs/Common/Widgets/DownloadPopUp?id=181171\&game_id=1704) and extract all its contents into your game folder.
3. Download [Vortex](https://www.nexusmods.com/site/mods/1?tab=files) and install to your desired location. Run it and sign in.
4. Go to games in the side bar and select to manage Skyrim SE.
5. Navigate to the top of this page and select "Add to Vortex".
6. Follow the installation instructions in Vortex. Once it finishes, select the "Deploy Mods" at the top of the mod section to make sure everything got installed.
7. We also have to download and install [Skyrim Realistic Overhaul](https://www.moddb.com/mods/skyrim-realistic-overhaul/downloads) (parts 1-3 +1.8 update) manually using the "Install from File" feature in the mod section of Vortex. There might be an error message for a conflict resolution from SRO. Simply click on the prompt in Vortex and go through each drop down that needs assigning and give priority to every other mod over SRO, except make sure to let the 1.8 file has priority over the base files of the mod. Click "Deploy Mods" when you're finished.
8. Lastly, we need to install [Wrye Bash](https://www.nexusmods.com/site/mods/591?tab=files), to your desired location and run it. Select Skyrim Special Edition and select launch. Scroll down in the left panel of plugins all the way to the bottom of the list. There should be a plugin called "Bashed Patch.esp". Right click it and in the menu, select "Rebuild Patch". Ignore any settings in the popup menu and just select "Build Patch". Once finished you can exit out.
9. Launch your game through Vortex to ensure it uses the SKSE64 launcher and enjoy! (Important: Once you've finished creating a character, go to the MCM menu and navigate to Spell Research. Under settings there is an option to import spells. Select it and close the menu and wait for it to finish. Just hit accept on any popups. After it's completed, I recommend creating a new save.)

# Gameplay

The gameplay has been altered in several significant ways. I will list the most notable to get you into it, but be aware, the mods included are not all that difficult to play with if you've never had experience with the mods before; In fact, it may even be more fun to discover them if it's your first time.

**Ordinator - Perks of Skyrim** is the main overhaul for perks. It adds a ton of variety and potential for builds that weren't in the base game. It still functions relatively the same as vanilla.

**Better Vampires + Royal Bloodline** are used to overhaul vampires. In Better Vampires, you'll need to feed and rank up to achieve greater power as a vampire. Unlike vanilla, you can feed on any person by sneaking with weapons sheathed. Royal Bloodlines is closer to vanilla mechanically speaking, but greatly enhances the perk tree, added some seriously cool abilities like true flight.

**Complete Alchemy and Cooking Overhaul** vastly changes alchemy and food. It adds a light survival mode and makes food more viable than vanilla. Alchemy is much vaster and has all new ingredients to learn. It also modifies diseases to make them harder to cure.

**Spell Research** allows the play to spend time studying spells in order to create thesis and learn new spells. Spell tomes have been mostly removed from the world and vendors so you will need to interact with the system in order to play any kind of spellcaster. In addition, it adds new mechanics to alchemy that play along with CACO, plus there are new spell forges that allow for spell creation. There is a set of tutorials in game for Spell Research located in the MCM menu.

**Open Civil War SE** overhauls the civil war making like an RTS. It should be relatively easy to play with, but I encourage you to go check out the mod page if you'd like more details.

**Thunderchild - Epic Shouts and Immersion** greatly enhanced your experience as a Dovahkiin. There are new shouts and activities as well as new landmarks to discover throughout the world.

**Zim's Immersive Artifacts** makes the various artifacts including Daedric artifacts much more useful and interesting. One example, the Dawnbreaker has a more balanced and useful effect and can be used as a one-handed or two-handed weapon.

I'll leave the rest for you to discover on your own. This list is not the most complex but should strike a good balance between familiarity and new mechanics.
